Product Description:
KEB manufactures the 08.P1.100-0247 for integration into the P1 Encoders and Brakes series. The unit is a compact electromagnetic brake assembly that mounts on the rear of small servo or induction motors to hold the shaft at a standstill and interface with a position sensor when required by the automation controller. In industrial machinery, it keeps tooling, conveyors, or axis drives from drifting when power is removed, supporting repeatable positioning between operating cycles.
The initial working clearance between the magnet face and armature is 0.35 mm, while the permitted wear limit is 0.90 mm; these gaps establish release response and maintenance inspection points. The friction surfaces are conditioned with a specified burnishing time of 1 s at a controlled rotational speed of 25 rpm. Proper burnishing stabilizes torque generation and shortens stopping distance during the first production runs. The brake is rated for a duty cycle of 100%, meaning the coil may remain continuously energized without overheating, which suits applications that spend long periods in the released state. The negative and positive flying leads are crimped with black and red insulation, respectively, to help prevent wiring errors during cabinet assembly.
An enclosure protection rating of IP20 protects against finger contact and solid objects larger than 12.5 mm, but the brake requires installation inside a closed drive housing when greater ingress protection is necessary. Radial misalignment between the magnet cup and armature plate is limited to 0.20 mm, while axial shaft movement relative to the magnet must remain below 0.08 mm; observing these limits prevents uneven wear and loss of holding force. The coil is designed for a nominal supply of 24 VDC, so it can connect directly to common control power buses without a separate converter. When the brake is wired, the red conductor carries the positive potential, and the black conductor provides the return path that completes the circuit.
