Product Description:
The 06.P1.100-0297 is a permanent-magnet holding brake produced by KEB within the P1 Encoders and Brakes series. It is designed to keep servomotor shafts motionless whenever control power is interrupted, providing secure position retention in automated machinery and conveyor systems. The unit uses magnetic attraction rather than mechanical springs, and an electromagnetic release coil disengages the armature when 24 V power is available. This operating principle makes the brake suitable for precise stop-and-hold duties in industrial automation.
The brake coil operates at a nominal voltage of 24 VDC, allowing direct connection to common control supplies. The coil supports continuous energization because the device is rated for 100% duty, so thermal cycling does not limit its release operation. Torque is generated through a permanent-magnet field, and release occurs only when the magnetic field is canceled by the energized coil, providing fail-safe holding behavior during a power loss. Proper installation requires maintaining the factory-set 0.3 mm standard air gap between the magnet and armature; this clearance balances rapid response with minimal residual drag. Disengagement is driven by an internal coil that provides an electromagnetic release, eliminating the need for mechanical linkages or pneumatic components in the machine frame.
An enclosure protection level of IP20 limits the brake to dry, clean installation areas and aligns with its dry-running design. The thermal insulation materials withstand temperatures up to 120 °C, while routine service must keep the operating clearance below the maximum 0.65 mm air gap to preserve torque capacity. The supply voltage must remain within +6% / -10% of the nominal value to avoid insufficient excitation or coil saturation. Alignment limits include a magnet-to-armature offset of 0.2 mm and a shaft-to-magnet offset of 0.08 mm, which help control lateral loading. The permitted operating temperature ranges from 0 °C to 40 °C, and storage at temperatures as low as -40 °C is allowed without demagnetization.
