Product Description:
The 03.P1.128-0617 is a permanent-magnet brake cartridge manufactured by KEB within the P1 Encoders and Brakes series. The unit is intended for direct mounting on servo or induction motor shafts, where it holds the rotor stationary when the drive is de-energized and releases quickly when motion is required. By combining the magnetic circuit with a compact encoder interface, the device supports precise position retention and indexing tasks in automated machinery, conveyors, and packaging lines. Its compact form allows direct integration into tight motor assemblies without external supports.
Correct air clearance is critical to magnetic flux and friction performance. The nominal working gap between the magnet and armature is 0.15 mm, while the upper limit of 0.4 mm indicates the service threshold at which wear shims or replacement may be required. Before initial operation, the friction surfaces are conditioned through burnishing for 1 s at 25 rpm. This process seats the contact faces and stabilizes static torque. After burnishing, the device can remain energized continuously because it has a duty cycle of 100%, permitting prolonged release periods or rapid cycling without overheating.
The active side of the unit clamps the shaft through a permanent-magnet circuit. Axial force is generated without springs, and the rotor releases when an electromagnetic field counteracts the residual magnetic flux. Electrical excitation provides the release method, allowing the brake to disengage within the controller cycle. The enclosure has an ingress protection rating of IP20, making the device suitable for protected installation inside a drive cabinet or motor housing. Alignment tolerances are tight because the magnet-armature stack may shift by no more than 0.1 mm, while the allowable shaft-to-magnet eccentricity is 0.05 mm. These tolerances help maintain even torque across the friction disc and prevent uneven contact between its working surfaces. The device operates in dry mode, so it requires no oil mist or grease, which helps keep encoder optics clean and prevents lubricant-related drag at high speed.
