The AL Linear Motors from Beckhoff comprise a brushless three-phase linear servomotor series designed for high-dynamics positioning applications in equipment such as handling systems, textile machinery, machine tools, and packaging machines.
The series uses a coil unit and a permanent-magnet magnetic plate, with neodymium magnet material and electronic commutation through a compatible digital servo drive rather than a self-contained standalone motor package. AL2xxx motors are offered in multiple sizes and configurations, including different motor widths, normal or speed winding options, and versions with or without water cooling to suit different motion requirements. For feedback and position control, the platform can be paired with external measuring systems or the optional Magnetic Encoder System, which works directly on the magnetic plates and provides 0.1 mm accuracy without a separate measuring scale. The motors are intended to be integrated into a complete machine axis with the required carriage, guides, support structure, and safety monitoring, including thermal protection and correct mechanical air-gap installation to achieve rated performance.
