The AL2815-0000-0000-0001 linear motor coil belongs to the AL Linear Motors series from Beckhoff. It converts drive current directly into translational force along a ferromagnetic track. This direct-drive arrangement removes the need for mechanical transmissions in pick-and-place units, gantries, and high-speed positioning stages, reducing backlash and the number of moving components in the drive train.
Under rated thermal conditions, the mover produces a continuous thrust of 950 N while drawing 4.2 A. For short acceleration intervals, the drive can supply 13.5 A, allowing the coil to generate up to 2250 N before duty-cycle limits apply. This overload capacity allows the stage to reach linear speeds of 3 m/s across the 130 mm-wide housing. The primary section contains 15 coils wound in a normal configuration. Its 120 mH inductance smooths current ripple, while the 15.2 Ω resistance establishes the baseline copper losses. These electrical characteristics support precise, low-cogging motion when the coil is paired with a compatible Beckhoff servo drive.
The air gap must be maintained at 0.5 mm to maximize magnetic flux coupling with the track. The mounting structure must withstand an attraction force of 4150 N created by the magnetic preload. A voltage constant of 107.48 V/m/s indicates the back electromotive force presented to the inverter, while a power constant of 186 N/A relates RMS current to useful thrust in thermal calculations.
