Product Description:
The AL2018-0000-0001 is a coil module from Beckhoff’s AL Linear Motors series. It functions as the moving primary of a linear servo axis, producing direct electromagnetic thrust rather than relying on ball screws or belts. In automated assembly lines and process equipment, this design delivers precise, backlash-free motion while reducing the number of mechanical components that require maintenance. When paired with a magnet track and drive amplifier, the unit translates current commands into controlled linear force for positioning, cutting, or packaging tasks.
During continuous operation with forced-air cooling, the coil produces a steady thrust of 600 N while drawing 6.45 A. Its force constant is 93 N/A, providing a predictable relationship between current and linear output. This performance supports travel speeds of up to 3.5 m/s for fast positioning movements. Brief overloads are supported by a peak phase current of 19.6 A, providing additional acceleration during short operating intervals. The normal winding pattern and internal arrangement of 18 coils distribute the thermal load along the housing, while forced air removes heat without a water-cooling circuit. Electrical connections use an M23 power plug and a D-Sub sensor plug, and the overall length of 336 mm accommodates compact carriage designs.
During rapid indexing, the coil can generate a peak thrust of 1350 N. The slider assembly must also withstand a magnetic attraction force of 2450 N directed toward the reaction plate. The electromagnetic sequence uses a pole pitch of 24 mm, while integrated PTC 1 kΩ and KTY83-122 sensors monitor temperature for thermal protection. The coil weighs 3.8 kg and measures 80 mm in width and 40 mm in height. A factory-assembled cable with a length of 0.5 m connects the module to the associated equipment while allowing practical routing within the machine axis.
