The AL2018-0001-0000 is a moving-coil linear motor module from Beckhoff, supplied within the AL Linear Motors series. As part of the manufacturer’s linear servo motor range, it provides direct thrust for gantries, pick-and-place axes, and other high-speed positioning systems. The mover’s 80 mm body width supports compact side-by-side mounting, and its coil assembly converts drive current into controlled linear force along the permanent-magnet track for applications that demand precise acceleration and repeatable velocity profiles.
Internally, eighteen coils arranged in a speed winding pattern generate thrust across a 24 mm pole pitch while maintaining a precise 0.5 mm air gap. During continuous operation with forced-air cooling, the motor delivers a sustained force of 600 N at a continuous phase current of 13.36 A. For short bursts, output rises to a peak force of 1350 N, and the drive may command up to 41.0 A. The mover can travel along the guide at a maximum velocity of 7 m/s, supported by a motor constant of 1140 N²/W and a phase-to-phase voltage constant of 26.87 V/m/s. Beckhoff supplies the windings without connectors, and the motor has no integrated water cooling, so cabinet-side cabling and external air ducts complete the installation.
Continuous operation produces a power loss of 450 W, which is dissipated through the aluminum housing. A thermal resistance of 0.16 °C/W limits the temperature rise, and the thermal time constant of 77 s indicates how quickly the winding assembly stabilizes after load changes. The secondary magnet rail attracts the mover with 2450 N of force, which must be considered during mechanical integration. The winding has an inductance of 8.8 mH and a phase-to-phase resistance of 1.18 Ω, allowing the drive to regulate current predictably during rapid motion commands.
