Product Description:
The AL2406-0001-0001 linear motor is manufactured by Beckhoff and belongs to the AL Linear Motors series. It is a moving-coil element from the company’s linear servo motor range, intended to generate direct thrust for pick-and-place axes, gantry stages, and other machinery that requires precise, backlash-free positioning. The motor body measures 50 mm in width, allowing installation beside guide rails inside compact modules. By replacing rotary motors and mechanical conversion components, it simplifies drive trains and improves dynamic accuracy in industrial automation cells.
Performance is based on a fixed air gap of 0.5 mm between the coil and the magnetic track. Under forced-air cooling, the mover delivers a continuous thrust of 120 N while dissipating 99 W, and its thermal path has a resistance of 0.75 °C/W relative to the ambient air. The permanent magnet array creates an attractive force of 500 N that must be countered by the carriage mounting. Travel speed can reach 10 m/s without derating, and the motor constant of 190 N²/W indicates the relationship between electrical power and usable linear force. Six coils arranged in a speed-winding layout share the load and keep cogging low.
Electrical limits govern short-term operation. The drive may apply a peak phase current of 8.20 A, producing a peak force of 240 N for rapid acceleration over the pole sequence. The pole pitch of 24 mm establishes the magnetic commutation spacing. The phase-to-phase voltage constant is 22.63 V/m/s, so the servo amplifier must reserve sufficient voltage margin for back EMF at high velocity. Nominal current is 3.08 A, and the power constant is 39 N/A for the speed-winding topology. Phase inductance is 34 mH, and resistance is 5.4 Ω; these values influence current-loop bandwidth and resistive heating. The motor operates without water cooling, and M23 and D-Sub connectors allow the electrical connections to be disconnected when necessary.
