The 5A5 Hard Disks series is a family of mass-storage devices designed for use in B&R Provit 5000 and Provit 5600 industrial PC systems.
These drives are installed in the bus unit through the hard disk or silicon disk slot on a dedicated insert card, using the system’s enhanced IDE-based storage interface. Depending on the model, the series includes versions mounted directly to the insert card, versions with rubber-suspended mounting, and versions combined with CompactFlash on the same assembly. Certain models in the series were also designated for specific hardware platforms, including socket 370-based IPC5000C and IPC5600C system units. The 5A5 Hard Disks series was intended to provide conventional hard disk storage capacity within the Provit architecture while remaining subject to the vibration, shock, and operating-life limits typical of mechanical hard drives.
