The 5A5000.04 is an interface board designed by B&R automation as part of the main memory of the 5000 and 5600 industry personal computer (IPC) designed for production and processing industrial operations. This interface board does not feature the standard with of the Industry standard Architecture (ISA) and can only be inserted into B&R's 16-bit Industry Standard Architecture (ISA) slot. It is designed exclusively for industrial computers and can not be operated in a standard ISA socket of a standard PC. The SRAM on the 5A5000.04 interface board is about 256 kilobytes, it can be addressed using the PCMCIA socket 2 and a lithium backup battery. The interface board has a length of about 1753 millimeters and a width of 127 millimeters. It also has a total weight of approximately 0.18 kilograms.
There are two combined (RS232/RS422/RS485) interfaces available on the interface board, the operating mode on the interface board is selected automatically depending on the electrical connection. Also, both Interface are quipped with a 16-byte First In First Out (FIFO) memory which are UART16550, and Plug and Play compatible. The resource settings on the interface board are made by the system during the system start by the Plug and play Basic Input and Output System (BIOS) and these resources cannot be manually changed by the user.
The 5A5000.04 B&R interface board is equipped with an Intel 82527 can controller which conforms to CAN specifications 2.0b. This makes it possible to use standard CAN and Extended CAN protocols. A PC card slot which can be accessed with the housing of the PC closed is available on the interface board. Type I, II, or II cards be used in this slot.
