Product Description:
The 5A5003.02 is a removable-media storage drive produced by B & R Automation for the 5A5 Hard Disks series. Installed in control cabinets alongside automation PCs or PLCs, the unit provides local mass storage so operating systems, application programs, and machine data can be loaded without relying on network resources. Its integrated interfaces allow direct connection to compatible system units, which simplifies recovery after service interruptions. Because the storage remains local to the machine, critical files can still be accessed when a plant network is unavailable.
The drive supports three separate media types. A CD mechanism reads discs at 24x speed, allowing rapid access to large software images. A legacy floppy slot accepts 1.44 MB disks for parameter backups, and a SuperDisk bay handles higher-density cartridges with 120 MB capacity for software archives or diagnostic logs. Host communication is routed through a 9-pin DSUB connector so the drive can be linked to controllers such as the 5C5001.21x and 5C5601.2x through the required host connection. Cabinet planning is eased by the unit’s 164 mm depth, allowing it to sit flush with adjacent modules while still leaving clearance for rear cabling.
The enclosure profile is compact, standing only 52 mm high and 156 mm wide, which helps conserve rack space in densely populated panels. Data and control lines are carried by the specified Mega Line host cable, eliminating separate ribbon assemblies and reducing electromagnetic interference. Installation flexibility is provided by a maximum mounting tilt of 25°, letting the drive be fitted in angled operator stations without affecting read accuracy. No external supply is required because all power is sourced from the host backplane, and a mounting bracket is shipped with the unit while a front cover is not included. The drive is boot-capable, so connected controllers can start directly from the inserted media.
