Product Description:
The 5A501002 is a hard disk assembly produced by B&R Automation within the 5A5 Hard Disks series. Designed for panel PC architectures, the module stores configuration data while also providing communication, graphics, and flat-panel display connections for local service access and operator interaction. This arrangement allows the storage assembly to be installed apart from the HMI hardware while still remaining connected to the automation system. It is suited to machine layouts where the control hardware and display hardware are not mounted in the same location.
Interface connectivity is organized around the serial COM port, which uses a 9-pin DSUB connector. This port carries the handshake and data lines DCD, RXD, TXD, DTR, GND, DSR, RTS, CTS, RI, allowing direct serial communication with compatible external devices. For flat-panel display connection, the unit provides an auxiliary FPD port with a 9-pin DSUB socket, and its signaling follows the Panellink format so display signals can travel through a single cable. A graphics subsystem link is available through a 15-pin DSUB socket, which supports connection to graphics channels used in expanded HMI layouts.
The drive supports operator panels in the range of 10.4 in, 12.1 in, 15 in, 18.1 in, and it maintains image transmission over cable runs up to 10 m between the enclosure and the display. When a GS-Link chain is used, the allowable separation increases to 35 m, which is useful when the controller is mounted in a remote cabinet. A regulated auxiliary output supplies 24 VDC for small peripheral loads, and the dedicated pins are arranged as 1 negative, 2 ground, and 3 positive for straightforward wiring. This combination of supported display sizes, cable distance, and auxiliary power helps the assembly fit distributed panel installations without requiring the display to be mounted next to the storage unit.
