The 5A5009.02 optical storage unit is produced by B & R Automation for the 5A5 Hard Disks series. Despite the series title, this model functions as a CD-RW add-on drive that fits into modular control PCs and machine-mounted HMI stations. Within an automation cabinet it provides removable media for firmware distribution, recipe archiving, and data logging without network dependence. That role allows maintenance teams to move files between field devices and engineering stations securely.
The drive communicates through the IDE / ATAPI (UDMA33) interface, so 5C5000.2x or 5C5000.3x bus units can map it as a secondary channel. A seek finishes in 110 ms, adequate for sequential recipe retrieval. Reads reach 24x, and blank discs accept write rates of 16x, 10x, or 4x so technicians can match media quality.
