The 5A5002.02 module is a storage adaptation board manufactured by B & R Automation and supplied in the 5A5 Hard Disks series. Designed for industrial PCs and PLC stations, the board connects to the system backplane and replaces rotating media with solid-state storage that better tolerates vibration and temperature variation on factory floors. This approach supports data logging, recipe handling, and operating-system file access without delays caused by spindle startup or head movement. It also removes mechanical wear points that are common in traditional hard drives used in continuous-duty control equipment.
Its format is a Dual Silicon Disk Adapter, which allows two independent flash devices to be installed on one carrier. The board provides 2 slots for CompactFlash media, so storage can be arranged for separate data sets or increased capacity within the same module. Each slot is intended for SLC cards, whose single-level cell design offers high write endurance and stable access times during repeated read and write cycles. Cards mount directly on the carrier, so no separate storage cable is required inside the enclosure. Because the media is flash-based, the adapter can maintain consistent access behavior during frequent machine starts, stops, and vibration-heavy operation.
The board installs in the Hard Disk / Silicon Disk Slot of compatible B & R Automation IPCs, with access available from the Top and Bottom faces of the host cage. In operation, it serves as a Hard Disk Replacement and is recognized by the system as fixed storage rather than removable media. This layout avoids spindle inrush current and keeps storage available in applications that cycle power frequently or run in high-motion environments.
