The 5A5004.10 is a shielded data harness manufactured by B & R Automation for the 5A5 Hard Disks series. In automated workcells, this cable establishes a high-integrity link between a machine controller and its rotating memory cartridge, supporting reliable transfer of recipes and diagnostic data in environments with strong electric motors and switching devices. Its shielding helps preserve signal quality when the harness is routed near other power and control wiring inside the machine.
The S/STP classification indicates that each twisted pair and the outer jacket use braided and foil coverage for noise immunity. With four balanced conductor pairs twisted inside the bundle, the assembly supports full-duplex Ethernet or SATA signaling over its 10 m length in typical cabinet-to-drive runs. A 9-pin DSUB plug is fitted at one end, while the opposite side carries the matching socket to maintain the intended plug-and-socket connection. The conductor geometry provides a characteristic impedance of 100 Ω, which helps minimize reflections when the line is terminated correctly. A Pair and Overall shield arrangement bonds to the metal shell to shunt common-mode currents, and the 22 AWG conductors help keep resistance low across the run.
A connector shell width of 32 mm helps the assembly fit standard drive access panels, and the metal-plated housing blocks radiated fields. The cable jacket measures 9.5 mm in diameter, which helps balance flexibility with space for the shielded groups inside. Bends can be formed down to 4 × outer diameter during static installation without damaging the insulation, while moving applications require a larger minimum bend radius of 8 × outer diameter to reduce cyclic fatigue. These routing limits help the harness pass through confined machine frames while maintaining stable data transmission as the hard-disk carriage moves along the axis.
