The 5A5001.18 is a non-volatile storage unit built by B&R Automation and supplied within the 5A5 Hard Disks series. Intended for use in industrial PCs and controller racks, the module preserves control programs, recipe data, and event logs during power cycles. By occupying a dedicated carrier slot rather than an external drive bay, it simplifies installation inside control cabinets where vibration and temperature differ from office-grade conditions.
The drive is carried on an Insert Card carrier, meaning the electronics are mounted on a pluggable board that mates with the backplane without additional cabling. Its 2.5 in (63.5 mm) form factor keeps the spindle assembly compact enough for tight enclosures while retaining standard mechanics. A 24/7 duty-cycle rating indicates support for continuous reads and writes around the clock, which is common in data-logging PLCs. Because the unit is Fixed, it stays anchored in the slot during operation, preventing movement under machine vibration. Storage capacity is 30 GB, which is enough for large HMI graphics, historical trends, and multiple project archives, and no CompactFlash card is pre-installed, leaving the auxiliary slot free for later use.
