Product Description:

B&R Automation manufactures the 8V1180.00-2 drive for the 8V1 ACOPOS Servo Drives series. The unit converts three-phase mains power into controlled outputs that regulate synchronous and induction motors in machinery. It supplies energy to the motor phases, manages regenerative braking, and communicates with the machine controller to deliver commanded torque and velocity. It is intended for cabinet installation in packaging, material handling, and assembly cells.

Its power section is rated at 9 kW, allowing the drive to run medium-frame servomotors without derating at nominal line voltage. During steady operation, the inverter supplies 19 Aeff of phase current, while short acceleration or braking cycles can draw up to 50 Aeff, giving headroom for peak torque demands. The output waveform may be modulated to 598 Hz, so high-speed spindles or linear actuators remain within vector-control bandwidth. A built-in 12 A fuse limits upstream fault energy, motor leads may extend to 25 m for flexible cabinet placement, and the 0.5 A logic supply on the 24 V rail powers encoders or external sensors connected to the axis.

The drive energizes its internal DC link only after the bus reaches 455 VDC; once active, 940 µF of capacitance smooths ripple to keep control loops stable. Additional 40,000 µF on the 24 V logic rail buffers field wiring against brownouts and feeds the 1.5 A brake output that releases spring-applied clamps during motion. Pulse-width modulation runs at 10 kHz, balancing switching loss with dynamic response, and standby consumption stays at 31.8 W when the axis is enabled but idle. Heat is managed through airflow because the electronics carry an IP20 protection rating suited for closed cabinets. Dynamic braking must connect to at least 15 Ω of external resistance to prevent overvoltage when heavy loads decelerate, and the upstream supply should be sized for an installed load of 17 kVA so the converter can reach full current without voltage sag.
