The 8V128M.00-2 is a servo drive module produced by B&R Automation within the 8V1 ACOPOS Servo Drives series. It converts three-phase mains power into controlled, high-frequency output for synchronous or induction motors used in industrial automation. By regulating voltage and current, the unit delivers precise torque and speed commands to machinery such as packaging lines, pick-and-place axes, and material-handling equipment.
This drive supplies a continuous phase current of 128 A RMS and can deliver up to 300 A RMS during dynamic peaks, providing broad load-following capability. The power section is rated at 64 kW, while the inverter’s IGBTs switch at a nominal frequency of 5 kHz to limit motor ripple and audible noise. The DC link stores energy through 6,600 µF of capacitance and becomes active once the bus reaches 455 VDC. The output frequency reaches 598 Hz, supporting high-speed spindle and linear motor applications. Overcurrent protection is provided by an internal 30 A fuse, and the starting inrush current is 26 A with a 400 VAC supply. Regenerative energy can be dissipated through an external braking resistor with a minimum resistance of 2.5 Ω. Motor cables may extend to 25 m without exceeding the permitted voltage rise time. The auxiliary electronics use 32,800 µF of input capacitance from the 24 V supply and provide 0.5 A for encoder or sensor loads.
An installed load of 98 kVA must be considered when sizing upstream contactors, protective devices, and power cables. The IP20 protection rating makes the drive suitable for installation inside a ventilated control cabinet that prevents contact with live components and protects the unit from larger solid objects. The chassis weighs 33.8 kg, so the mounting panel and its supports must accommodate the drive’s mass. Adequate clearance around the chassis allows heat to leave the power electronics during continuous operation. Cable routing should also separate motor conductors from low-level feedback and control wiring to reduce electromagnetic interference along the permitted motor cable run.
