Product Description:

The 8V1640.00-2 servo drive is produced by B&R Automation within the 8V1 ACOPOS Servo Drives series. The unit conditions power for synchronous or induction motors, regulates torque, speed, and position, and returns axis energy through the DC bus. In automation cells, it provides closed-loop control, energy recuperation, and protective monitoring for conveyors, pick-and-place gantries, and other electromechanical loads.

During continuous operation, the power stage can deliver 64 Aeff, giving the drive enough margin for medium-frame servo motors running at rated torque. Short demand peaks up to 200 Aeff are tolerated for acceleration or impact load rejection without saturating the current sensors. The inverter outputs mechanical shaft power of 32 kW, limited by the thermal capacity of the IGBT bridge and the 54 kVA installed load rating. Pulse-width modulation is generated at a carrier frequency of 10 kHz, while commanded fundamental frequencies can reach 598 Hz. Energy exchanged with the axis is buffered by 3300 µF of DC bus capacitance, which reduces voltage ripple. For semiconductor safety, the link circuit is enabled only after the intermediate voltage exceeds 455 VDC, avoiding turn-on during undervoltage events and maintaining predictable braking behavior.

A dynamic brake transistor directs excess energy to an external resistor of at least 2.5 Ω, converting kinetic overrun into heat and protecting the bus capacitors. Panel planning must accommodate a housing height of 460 mm, a width of 276 mm, and a depth of 295 mm. The unit has a mass of 24.1 kg. Motor leads may be routed up to 25 m without additional output filtering, and the 24 V control supply is buffered by 32 800 µF so that drive logic remains active long enough to store fault data and perform an orderly axis stop after a mains dropout.
