SMC Motion Stepper Drives

The SMC Motion Stepper Drives series is a Kollmorgen family of compact stepper motor drives and integrated motion controllers designed for machine-level control of two-phase and four-phase motors.

Across the range, the series includes unipolar and bipolar chopper designs with full-step, half-step, and microstepping operation, with selected models offering step resolutions as fine as 1/64 step. Lower-power versions operate from a single 16–32 VDC supply that powers both logic and motor circuits, while higher-power models are available with built-in 115/230 VAC line-operated power capability. Depending on the model, control is handled through TTL pulse-and-direction or CW/CCW inputs, analog speed command input, or an RS-232 interface with programmable motion functions, onboard memory, programmable I/O, and support for daisy-chaining up to eight axes from one serial port. The series also includes features such as adjustable current limiting, automatic idle current reduction, optically isolated inputs on selected units, buffered pulse translation with selectable ramps, and motion functions tied to home, limit, stop, and busy-status signals for system integration.
