The SMC-1156 is a stepper drive released by Kollmorgen within the SMC Motion Stepper Drives series. It accepts an analog command signal and delivers phase-sequenced power to matched stepper motors, allowing closed-loop motion positioning in machine tools, pick-and-place rigs, and indexing tables. By combining a microstepping power stage with onboard scaling, the unit links higher-level PLC or motion controller outputs to the motor windings without requiring additional interface hardware.
The control side has 6 analog port pins that carry the velocity or position reference, while 8 auxiliary inputs allow a controller to enable, reset, or change the operating mode without rewiring the main connector. A bank of 50 main I/O pins consolidates limit switches, fault signals, and status flags on a single ribbon header. The drive stage operates as a high-voltage analog input driver with a scalable analog input, allowing the input range to be adjusted for ±5 V or ±10 V sources.
