Product Description:
The X20CP1584 central processing unit is produced by B & R Automation within the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. As the control core of a modular PLC rack, it coordinates distributed I/O and motion elements, linking them to higher-level networks and deterministic machine tasks in industrial automation. This role lets the unit manage control logic, data exchange, and synchronization across local and networked machine sections from a single platform. Standard interfaces include one RS232 port, one Ethernet port, one POWERLINK interface, two USB connectors, and a dedicated X2X Link that can back-feed 7 W to remote modules.
The CPU employs an Atom E620T processor running at 0.6 GHz, and each logical command executes in 0.0075 µs. A main memory of 256 MB DDR2 SDRAM stores the runtime system, while 1 MB of battery-backed SRAM is reserved for user variables that must survive power loss. Communication traffic is handled through a gigabit port supporting 10/100/1000 Mbit/s and a POWERLINK channel fixed at 100 Mbit/s. For fast cyclic control, the system can initiate a task every 400 µs. One modular interface slot allows field-specific expansion without exceeding the controller's footprint, and the compact silicon helps maintain deterministic behavior when multiple protocols are active. That arrangement supports responsive control loops and stable communication during simultaneous automation tasks.
Total base demand remains at 8.6 W, so cabinet thermal loads stay moderate, and the assembly carries an IP20 rating for sheltered panel installation. Peak draw on the 24 V supply is limited to 1.5 A. The RS232 port transmits up to 115.2 kbit/s over distances reaching 900 m, making it suitable for legacy drives or barcode readers positioned far from the cabinet. This interface mix supports connection to peripheral devices and distributed I/O in compact control cabinets.
