The X20CP1484 central processing unit is produced by B & R Automation within the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. Designed as the control core of distributed I/O stations, the module executes application code, handles deterministic communication, and provides power to downstream slices. Its fanless construction eliminates moving parts, while the integrated CompactFlash slot accepts one card for program and data storage. A single modular interface bay lets the user add a fieldbus or serial expansion so that the CPU can adapt to the plant network.
The processor is a Celeron 266–compatible core supported by 2× 16 kB of L1 cache, enabling quick fetch of frequently used instructions. System memory consists of 32 MB SDRAM, enough to accommodate IEC 61131 task code and buffer variables during fast cyclic operation. Under optimal conditions the controller achieves a minimum task period of 800 µs; this cycle time defines the shortest interval between successive user program scans and is critical for high-speed motion or packaging lines. Digital outputs are supplied at 24 VDC, matching standard industrial sensor levels, and the housing carries a IP20 rating so it must be mounted in a protected cabinet.
