The X20CPS2100 is a power supply module produced by B&R Automation for the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. The unit converts incoming 24 VDC rail energy into stabilized voltages dedicated to the slice-based I/O groups mounted on the same carrier. In an automation rack, it occupies one slot next to the communication coupler and supplies internal current so that digital and analog field signals remain within their intended operating limits. By limiting voltage drops within the rack, it supports deterministic scanning of distributed process variables.
Under nominal conditions, the module draws only 0.2 W from the X2X system bus, minimizing aggregate backplane dissipation. Its onboard electronics require 0.6 W, which is relevant when calculating enclosure thermal loads. The integrated DC/DC converter can deliver up to 240 W of internal I/O supply power, and the output channels may share a combined return current of 10 A before protective shutdown occurs. The front and lateral surfaces have an IP20 protection rating, so the device must be installed in a closed control cabinet. Its adverse-atmosphere approval permits use in locations with airborne contaminants, provided that the cabinet maintains the required ingress protection.
Reliable operation is maintained up to 2000 m above sea level without derating, accommodating typical plant elevations. These limits help maintain stable contact within the spring terminals during transportation and operation. The device belongs to Overvoltage Category II, indicating that it is designed for circuits supplied from a local distribution network. It tolerates 100% condensing humidity while powered off. Its supply function supports internal I/O only, while the X2X link feed is intentionally absent so fieldbus routing remains concentrated in the dedicated coupler module.
