Product Description:
The X20CP3485 is a central processing module from B&R Automation and belongs to the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. Designed as the control core for distributed I/O nodes, it executes user programs, manages deterministic task scheduling, and exchanges data over the system backplane and fieldbus network. In a machine or process cell, this unit provides the computing performance required to coordinate motion axes, safety channels, and HMI functions while fitting into the same DIN rail carrier as companion X20 signal modules.
Its computing core uses an Intel Celeron 400 processor supported by two 16 kB L1 caches and a 256 kB L2 cache. An instruction can be completed in 0.0055 µs, allowing the controller to refresh the primary cyclic task every 400 µs. Main memory consists of 32 MB SDRAM, which provides space for motion libraries and communication stacks. Base power consumption is 10.5 W, so the housing dimensions of 99 mm in height, 200 mm in width, and 85 mm in depth can be cooled by natural convection inside a standard cabinet. Three expansion slots accept additional interface modules, and the multi-tier cache structure helps reduce bus traffic during cyclic operation.
Non-volatile program and recipe data can be stored on the single CompactFlash slot, while fast retentive variables reside in 1 MB SRAM that is battery buffered against power loss. The controller exports up to 7 W of X2X backplane power to downstream I/O slices and provides diagnostic access through a USB 1.1 service port. A real-time clock with 1 s resolution time-stamps events, and the isolated storage interface helps keep logging activity from interfering with cyclic code execution. Front-access ports do not require changes to standard X20 rail spacing, which helps the module fit established cabinet layouts.
