Pacific Scientific SC900 and SCE900 Servo Drive Repair

The SC900 family consists of single-axis, resolver-based servo drives designed for three-phase brushless permanent magnet motors. The control platform uses a digital signal processor for the current loops, software-defined operating parameters, digital auto-tuning, and sinusoidal current control. Resolver feedback provides the motor position and velocity information required for commutation, while the drive can generate an emulated incremental encoder output for other machine controls.

SC900 functionality can be expanded through removable option cards. Pacific Scientific 6410 Stepper Drive Repair

The Pacific Scientific 6410 converts step and direction commands into regulated winding current for a two-phase stepper motor. It operates from a 24 to 75 VDC supply and provides eight switch-selectable phase-current settings from 0.625 to 5 A RMS. Peak current reaches 7.1 A in microstep operation. A two-phase bipolar power stage regulates the current with 20 kHz chopping to reduce audible switching noise and improve current control.

Selectable step sizes range from full-step operation through 1/250-step decimal resolution or 1/256-step binary resolution. With a standard 1.8-degree stepper motor, this corresponds to as many as 50,000 decimal or 51,200 binary microsteps per revolution. Digital electronic damping addresses instability in the motor’s mid-speed region, while idle-current reduction lowers winding current after motion stops. Step, direction, and enable inputs are optically isolated from the motor-power circuit.

When troubleshooting a 6410, the DC supply should remain between 24 and 75 VDC, including during regenerative deceleration. Motor and cable shorts, incorrect phase-current switches, insufficient cooling, improper step timing, and inadequate heatsinking can produce symptoms that resemble an internal drive fault. Because the supplied hardware manual defines common 6410 platform ratings without decoding the longer suffixes, the complete nameplate number should be supplied to Wake Industrial when requesting a repair or replacement.

Pacific Scientific S Series Brushless Motor Repair

Pacific Scientific S Series motors are six-pole synchronous servomotors that use neodymium-iron-boron rotor magnets. The motor construction includes an anti-cog stator, overtemperature thermistor, high-voltage insulation, sealed bearing arrangement, and TENV housing with IP65 protection. The series includes NEMA 23 and NEMA 34 frame sizes, with optional shaft, brake, feedback, sealing, and termination configurations.

The compact S20 group covers continuous torque ratings from approximately 0.32 to 1.6 Nm and rated speeds as high as 12,500 RPM. The larger S30 group covers continuous torque ratings from approximately 1.9 to 6.6 Nm, with rated speeds reaching 3,900 RPM in supported winding configurations. Available feedback arrangements include Hall sensors, a frameless resolver, and secondary encoder options. Brake selections, Viton shaft sealing, and multiple connector or flying-lead terminations are identified directly in the motor code. Pacific Scientific PowerPac K Stepper Motor Repair

PowerPac K motors are Sigmax hybrid stepper motors offered in standard NEMA mounting dimensions. The model-number system identifies NEMA 34 or NEMA 42 frame size, rotor-stack count, mounting configuration, construction and hookup, winding arrangement, winding type, rotor type, shaft configuration, shaft modification, feedback provision, and special sequence. The K designation identifies the Sigmax construction, while the related N designation identifies the standard construction.

Construction choices include regular leadwire, an MS system connector, and splashproof terminal-board or conduit arrangements. Winding options include four-lead series, four-lead parallel, six-lead, and eight-lead configurations.
