The S5001 is a step motor control manufactured by Kollmorgen. The device was created to provide a means to control step motors from the brand. It is designed for single-axis positioning in simple linear positioning applications. It will work with units that are compatible with NEMA frame size 23 and the low power IDC “S2” units. It works with step motors that have been mounted to an IDC electric linear actuator. The drive features an integrated power supply as well as an integrated integral transformer. Both of these integrations allow the user to directly operate the motor control from a 120 Volt AC supply. The unit can initiate either full step operation or even half step operation. These can be initiated thanks to the S5001 being designed with a built-in oscillator. There is also the option to initiate stepping with a remote step pulse source.
The S5001 has the additional feature of multi-turn speed control pots. The unit also features a standby circuit for current reduction. The unit utilizes a bipolar chopper drive amplifier with a nominal chopping frequency of 15 kHz. The drive supply voltage is 36VDC. At full step mode, it will provide 200 steps per revolution while at half step mode it will provide 400 steps per revolution. The preset ramp times are 30 minutes to deceleration and 60 minutes to acceleration.
The S5001 is a 2 phase 1.8 hybrid stepper. This features permanent magnet technology and a 6 lead with an inductance range of 1 – 35 mH. The control hardware feature two LED lights, 2 internal speed clocks, and 8 dipswitches. When the green LED is showing, this means the unit is on and when the red LED is showing this indicates a fault.
