Product Description:

The S70601-NA is a servo drive built by Kollmorgen for the S700 Servo Drives series. It conditions mains power, monitors feedback, and modulates motor current so that motion axes follow commands issued by PLCs or CNC controllers in industrial automation. By combining power conversion, fieldbus communication, and safety in one housing, the drive simplifies the integration of precise speed and torque control into packaging lines, handling robots, and process equipment.

The drive operates from a three-phase input of 208–480 V and absorbs up to 4.5 kVA under rated load. Its nominal current is 6 A rms, while short bursts reach 18 A rms for 2 s and 12 A rms for 5 s to start or accelerate heavy inertial loads. Pulse-width modulation is generated at a switching frequency of 8 kHz, allowing smooth torque even at low motor speed. Overvoltage protection actuates at 800 VDC, and the brake chopper begins energy dissipation at 720 VDC through an internal 33 Ω resistor that can absorb 75 W continuously. The single-channel STO function disconnects the output stage without removing control power. CANopen and EtherCAT nodes are onboard, so no expansion card is required, and the control PCB set follows the Standard option.

An auxiliary supply of 24 VDC keeps logic active during mains loss, maintaining diagnostics and network presence. The enclosure has a frame width of 70 mm and a height of 345 mm without connectors, allowing multiple axes to mount side by side in shallow cabinets. Internal braking capacity is 75 W, matched to the heat sink and airflow of the drive. The braking resistor value of 33 Ω limits peak dissipation. Standard PCBs, single-channel STO, and the absence of additional option cards reduce part count, while the onboard EtherCAT and CANopen interfaces provide deterministic communication with higher-level controllers.

Fault code (LED) What the drive is telling you First corrective actions
F01 – Heat-sink over-temp The internal heat-sink has climbed above ≈ 80 °C and the power stage is shut down Improve cabinet airflow, clean fan/vents, verify the fan is running, and keep ambient ≤ 40 °C
F02 – DC-bus over-voltage Regeneration or high mains pushed the bus beyond its limit Add/verify braking resistor, slow decel ramps, check mains setting
F03 – Following-error limit Actual position deviated beyond PEMAX window Inspect mechanics for jams, retune loop gains, widen error window if safe
F04 – Feedback fault Encoder/resolver signal missing, shorted or noisy Check feedback cable & shield, verify feedback type, replace encoder if needed
F05 – DC-bus under-voltage Mains sagged or phase lost while enabled Confirm 3-phase feed & fuses, respect “power-on → ENABLE” delay, inspect contactor
F06 – Motor over-temperature PTC/thermistor inside motor tripped or defective Improve motor cooling, reduce load, test sensor, verify MAXTEMPM parameter
F07 – Internal voltage fault One logic rail out of tolerance Remove external 24 V loads, check 24 V supply, send drive for service if fault persists
F08 – Overspeed Actual velocity exceeded VOSPD limit Verify commanded speed/gearing, inspect feedback wiring, raise limit only after checks
F14 – Output-stage fault IGBT bridge short or shorted motor lead detected Meg-ohm test motor/cable, inspect for shorts, return drive for repair if bridge is damaged
F23 – CAN-bus OFF Severe CANopen communication error Verify bus wiring & 120 Ω terminators, check baud rate & node-ID conflicts
