Product Description:
The S70601-SE servo drive is manufactured by Kollmorgen as part of the S700 Servo Drives series. This drive acts as the power and control interface between higher-level motion controllers and three-phase servo motors in industrial automation equipment. By converting the incoming AC supply into precisely timed output pulses, it enables accurate torque, speed, and positioning functions required for packaging lines, electronic assembly stations, and material-handling axes.
Electrically, the drive draws up to 4.5 kVA from the mains and delivers a continuous phase current of 6 Arms while tolerating 18 Arms (2 s) for rapid acceleration events. The power stage is rated for line voltages from 208 to 480 V, and its IGBT bridge switches at 8 kHz to shape sinusoidal motor currents. A minimum motor inductance of 2.1 mH with 3 × 230 V supplies is required to keep the current ripple within controller limits. The device subjects the motor leads to a voltage rise rate of 3.3 kV/µs, which is important when evaluating insulation stress and cable layout. Internal circuitry can dissipate 75 W of regenerated energy, preventing DC bus overvoltage during deceleration.
The mechanical package is compact, measuring 70 mm in width, 243 mm in depth, and 345 mm in height without connectors, and it weighs 4.4 kg. During nominal operation, the heat sink releases 100 W to the cabinet air, so forced ventilation may be required in dense installations. Dynamic braking energy is routed through a 33 ohms integrated resistor, and safe torque off protection is provided by a single-channel STO circuit. Fieldbus connectivity is added through the SERCOS expansion card, while 128 kByte of macro memory stores drive-resident programs. The unit uses standard PCBs that follow Kollmorgen’s option code for general-purpose environments.
