The R-IL PROFIBUS Bus Couplers are Inline station head modules that connect a PROFIBUS-DP network to the Rexroth Inline I/O system so distributed terminals (and, on some versions, Fieldline Modular M8 modules) can communicate with a PROFIBUS master.
They use an RS-485 PROFIBUS interface via a 9-pin D-SUB connector, support automatic baud-rate detection from 9.6 kbps to 12 Mbps, and set the PROFIBUS address using rotary switches. A single coupler station supports up to 63 local bus devices, with certain variants allowing up to 61 additional Inline devices beyond the coupler’s own integrated I/O. DP/V1-capable versions add acyclic services for Class 1/2 masters plus functions like terminal parameterization, failsafe values, and multiple diagnostic formats, with behavior depending on the configured operating mode. The coupler is powered from 24 VDC, generates the required internal communication/analog supplies, and mixed-function models can include built-in 24 V digital I/O (for example 8 DI / 4 DO) at the station head.
