Product Description:
The R-IL PB BK DI8 DO4/EFPAC bus coupler is manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat and belongs to the R-IL PROFIBUS Bus Couplers series. Within an automation cell, the device connects an Inline I/O station to a PROFIBUS-DP network so that discrete machine signals are forwarded to the central PLC without additional gateways. By converting local backplane traffic into fieldbus messages, it reduces wiring requirements and provides a single access point for diagnostics, power distribution, and device services. This arrangement allows distributed inputs and outputs to communicate through one network connection while remaining integrated with the local Inline station.
The coupler communicates with legacy controllers through the DP/V0 profile and exchanges up to 244 bytes of cyclic input data while sending an equivalent 244 bytes of output data to the field. The payload of each message is capped at 64 bytes, so large data sets are segmented automatically. Dynamic configuration allows the master to recognize the active I/O map during startup, eliminating the need to create address tables manually. Safety-related channels can coexist on the same trunk because PROFIsafe is implemented in the device. When acyclic functions are required, the station supports Invoke ID transmission, enabling command-and-response transactions without interrupting cyclic traffic. This capability permits noncyclic requests to operate alongside the recurring exchange of process values.
Extended diagnostics use the DP/V1 read-write channel. These services move up to 237 bytes of parameter data with each request and permit device identification through the I&M function block. PCP module operation simplifies component-level setup, and a controller may address as many as 16 PCP subdevices from a single coupler. In total, the station can carry 488 bytes of process data, supporting flexible expansion through modules that share the same PROFIBUS node address. A stop command delivered through a parameter message can halt user data flow without powering down the entire segment. This function provides a controlled way to suspend communication during maintenance or fault isolation while leaving the remaining network infrastructure energized.
