Bosch Rexroth Indramat’s R-IL PB BK DI8 DO4/CN-PAC belongs to the R-IL PROFIBUS Bus Couplers series and functions as a modular interface between PROFIBUS DP networks and inline I/O terminals. In an automation cell, the coupler converts cyclic fieldbus telegrams into local backplane signals so that connected digital modules can interact with a central PLC without separate wiring. By supporting the PROFIBUS DP protocol, it fits into distributed architectures where quick bit-level exchanges are sufficient for machine sequencing.
The coupler operates from a nominal 24 VDC supply and draws 0.98 A, which must be included in cabinet power budgets. Eight input circuits present a nominal load of 3 mA each, while four high-side output switches can source up to 500 mA per channel for solenoids or indicator lamps. Process images of up to 488 bytes are transferred over the PROFIBUS DP line. The network connects through a 9-pin D-Sub female socket that uses RS-485 signaling and has nine assignable positions. Field wiring is secured by tension-spring modules, avoiding tool-based terminations and reducing service time. With 8 discrete inputs available, the coupler can collect signals from on-machine sensors without requiring an additional remote I/O island.
The plastic housing is 80 mm wide, 71.5 mm deep, and 119.8 mm high, giving the unit a compact footprint on the DIN rail. Its overall mass is only 320 g, so the unit adds little mechanical load to lightweight control panels. The IP20 enclosure protects against contact with hazardous internal parts and against solid objects larger than 12.5 mm.
