The R-IL PB BK DP/V1 bus coupler is manufactured by Bosch Rexroth Indramat as part of the R-IL PROFIBUS Bus Couplers series. Designed for DIN-rail mounting, the unit forms the interface between a PROFIBUS master and a stack of Inline I/O terminals. It converts network telegrams into the system’s local backplane format while distributing 7.5 V DC communication power to the connected slices. By performing this protocol and power exchange, the coupler allows a central PLC to poll distributed sensors and actuators without separate wiring for each signal.
The fieldbus side follows the PROFIBUS-DP standard and uses an RS-485 transceiver that connects to the plant network through a 9-position D-SUB female connector. The link supports data rates up to 12 Mbit/s and can address as many as 63 devices per station. On the supply side, the coupler accepts a main voltage of 24 V DC. It draws a maximum of 1.25 A DC from this rail when the downstream modules are fully loaded. Process images exchanged with the controller contain 176 bytes of I/O data in DP/V1 cyclic mode, while 168 bytes of parameter information are handled during acyclic services to establish operating limits and diagnostic thresholds.
Backplane conductors inside the housing can carry up to 8 A, allowing sizable loads on the 24 V feed to pass through the Inline terminal string without external jumpers. Separate analog cards are supported by a dedicated segment that can continuously deliver 0.5 A so precision sensors receive a clean supply. Shock resistance of 25 g permits installation on moving machinery frames, and the enclosure has an IP20 rating for installation in protected control cabinets. Overall dimensions of 90 × 120 × 72 mm help keep panel depth shallow. A typical no-load current of 0.11 A minimizes standby draw when the coupler is energized but I/O traffic is idle.
