The CX5140-0100 is an embedded PC manufactured by Beckhoff and supplied as part of the CX Embedded PC Systems series. The device acts as a modular industrial controller that consolidates PLC tasks, motion coordination, and SCADA communication on one DIN-rail unit. By combining an Intel Atom processor with onboard fieldbus interfaces, the module fits directly beside Beckhoff I/O terminals. This arrangement allows deterministic control code to execute close to the machine while Ethernet networks forward data to higher-level enterprise software. The compact format also reduces the space needed for control hardware in an industrial cabinet.
Computation is handled by an Intel Atom E3845 running at 1.91 GHz, and the processor provides 4 cores to keep real-time and background tasks separated without requiring external processing hardware. The processor is supported by 4 GB DDR3 RAM, allowing large TwinCAT projects and historical datasets to remain in main memory. System storage is available through a CFast slot and a MicroSD slot, so application images and logs can be divided between removable media. Two Gigabit Ethernet ports are provided as 2 × RJ45 10/100/1000 Mbit/s ports for EtherCAT or standard TCP/IP traffic.
