Product Description:

Beckhoff’s CX5130-0125 embedded PC belongs to the CX Embedded PC Systems series. It is intended to act as the central PLC, motion controller, and HMI host in distributed automation cells. By combining an Intel Atom processor with fieldbus and I/O interfaces, the device runs real-time logic, visualization, and data logging directly on the DIN rail without an external industrial PC. Within a compact housing, it offers enough computing power for mid-range machines while maintaining the wiring and form factor typical of a conventional terminal block.

The computing core is an Intel Atom E3827 running at 1.75 GHz and equipped with 2 logical cores, enabling deterministic execution of TwinCAT 3 Runtime tasks as well as standard Windows services. A dedicated 4 GB DDR3-RAM module handles code, HMI graphics, and buffered process data. Mass storage is provided through a CFast slot and a MicroSD slot, so storage media can be exchanged without opening the enclosure. Communication to supervisory networks and EtherCAT terminals is handled through 2 × RJ45, 10/100/1000 Mbit/s ports, and peripheral devices such as service keyboards or barcode scanners connect through 4 × USB 2.0, 500 mA ports. A built-in UPS bridges 1 s of supply loss and retains 1 MB of volatile process variables for orderly shutdown.

The system draws a maximum of 14 W and operates from a single 24 V DC control circuit, simplifying cabinet power distribution. Its electronics withstand a dielectric strength of 500 V between supply and ground, supporting isolation requirements found in machinery safety standards. Housed in a fanless package that measures 142 mm × 100 mm × 92 mm, the PC fits beside standard terminal modules while keeping a slim depth. The enclosure carries an IP20 rating, so it must be installed in a protected cabinet but offers finger-safe access to connectors.

Symptom / LED pattern Likely Cause (what it means) Recommended Corrective Action
PWR LED off (dark) 24 V DC not present or below tolerance; controller isn’t powered Verify cabinet supply is 24 V DC (-15 % / +20 %), check fuse & terminals, then repower the CX.
TC LED yellow TwinCAT runtime exception / PLC crash Open TwinCAT on engineering PC, read error list, correct program or field-bus mapping, return state to Run.
HDD LED stays red right after boot CFast or µSD card missing, not mounted or file system corrupt Re-seat card, run disk check from maintenance PC; replace card if red LED persists.
K-BUS ERR LED – continuous rapid flashing EMC disturbance or unstable power Check 24 V line for transients/brown-outs, add ferrites or filters, power-cycle the CX after corrections.
K-BUS ERR LED – 3 slow pulses K-bus command error (no Bus Terminal or defective one) Insert first terminal or halve the terminal chain to isolate and replace the faulty unit.
K-BUS ERR LED – 4 pulses / arg 0 Break directly after the power-supply terminal Ensure the Bus End Terminal 9010 is present and seated; inspect wiring.
K-BUS ERR LED – 4 pulses / arg n Line break after Bus Terminal n Check wiring between terminals n and n + 1; replace damaged parts.
K-BUS ERR LED – 5 pulses / arg n Register communication error with Bus Terminal n Replace the terminal at position n; reboot controller.
K-BUS ERR LED – 6 pulses (0/1/8) Initialization or internal data error in the CX Perform a full power-cycle; if error reoccurs, reflash firmware or replace CPU module.
System clock loses date/time on every boot Coin-cell battery in RTC exhausted Replace 3 V lithium cell behind the front flap, then set correct date/time in BIOS.
