The CX5130-0143 is a DIN-rail-mounted controller from Beckhoff that belongs to the CX Embedded PC Systems series. It serves as the central controller in machines and process lines, executing PLC logic, motion sequences, and visualization through the TwinCAT 2 NC I runtime environment. By combining computing power, industrial I/O interfaces, and a short-term uninterruptible power supply in a compact enclosure, the device can replace a traditional rack PC in applications where cabinet space and low power consumption are important.
Inside the unit, an Intel Atom E3827 1.75 GHz dual-core processor handles deterministic control tasks. Both processor cores are available to TwinCAT, permitting real-time threads to operate separately from the operating system shell. Program variables and buffers are stored in 4 GB of DDR3 RAM, which is soldered to the board for vibration resistance. The electronics operate from a nominal 24 V DC input with a -15% to +20% tolerance. The base power consumption remains at 14 W during operation and rises to 20 W while the internal UPS capacitor is charging after a power cycle. The integrated UPS provides approximately one second of backup time and can copy up to 1 MB of process data to the CFast card, helping prevent data loss during sudden outages. Removable CFast and MicroSD slots provide accessible storage for software updates, application files, and process recipes.
Network connectivity is provided by two RJ45 ports supporting 10/100/1000 Mbit/s, enabling connections to EtherCAT fieldbus segments or plant Ethernet networks without an external switch. Four front-panel connectors provide four USB 2.0 ports rated at 500 mA each, allowing compatible service devices, barcode scanners, and HMI touch panels to receive bus power from the controller. The aluminum housing measures 142 × 100 × 92 mm and weighs 1,095 g, making it suitable for compact control cabinet layouts. Its IP20 enclosure rating provides protection against accidental finger contact when the controller is installed inside a properly ventilated cabinet. A dielectric strength of 500 V provides electrical isolation between low-voltage supply domains and helps protect internal circuits from transient voltage differences.
