Symptom / LED indication* Likely cause Recommended corrective action
FAILSAFE LED solid red immediately after boot Entire module in FailSafe state after a safety error Open SafeDESIGNER ➜ read last diagnostic entry; correct wiring / network fault, then clear the safety error & warm-restart the controller
FAILSAFE LED blinks 1 Hz indefinitely openSAFETY channel invalid (SafeOS ≠ RUN) Check POWERLINK cabling and that every safety node is powered and in RUN; verify node configuration CRCs
CPU STATUS LED blinks 0.5 Hz orange SafeDESIGNER is in Debug / STOP mode Exit Debug, switch application to RUN, or store a RUN project to the SafeKEY
STATUS LED blinks 1 Hz orange at power-up No application stored on SafeKEY Download safety project, or insert the correct SafeKEY dongle, then reset
SafePLC cannot be reached from Automation Studio Controller is booting / updating or IO power missing Wait until boot LEDs finish, check X2X supply, confirm the CPU is not in firmware-update mode
PowerLINK LED red; safe nodes offline Network cable / topology fault Inspect RJ45 & hub wiring, replace damaged cable, verify ring/line topology
SKEY LED blinks orange continuously Repeated SafeKEY access – dongle loose Reseat SafeKEY, inspect contacts; if worn, replace SafeKEY and reload licence
Module overheats (> 70 °C) → “Temp !!!” on text display Ambient temp too high, vent slots blocked Improve cabinet ventilation; if optional clip-on fan is fitted, verify airflow
24 V LED off / spontaneous resets Logic supply < 20.4 V or noisy PSU Adjust 24 V PSU, separate safety CPU feed from inductive loads, add ferrite
Battery-low warning at start-up 3 V lithium cell depleted → SRAM at risk Replace battery while powered to keep remanent data; restore project if SRAM lost
