Product Description:
The X20AI1744 is an analog input module produced by B&R Automation for the X20 Fieldbus Input/Output Modules series. Designed for installation on the X20 backplane, the unit conditions strain-gauge signals so a PLC can monitor mechanical load or tension in automated machinery. By offering direct bridge measurement inside the field I/O layer, it eliminates external amplifiers and shortens wiring runs, supporting more compact and accurate feedback loops in pressing, weighing, or web-handling systems.
Signal fidelity begins with a converter resolution of 24 bits, allowing the controller to discern very small load variations without oversampling. The module has one input channel, so it dedicates its entire conversion bandwidth to a single sensor, simplifying scaling and diagnostics. Ahead of the sigma-delta converter, a 5 kHz input filter attenuates mechanical noise while still passing typical strain-gauge dynamics. The front end is optimized for a full-bridge strain gauge, providing internal excitation and balanced differential measurement that rejects common-mode interference. For cabinet layouts with horizontal airflow, the electronics tolerate temperatures up to 60 °C. When the module is mounted vertically, the temperature limit is 50 °C because of reduced convective cooling inside tall enclosures.
In mobile rigs or elevated conveyor galleries, the module continues to function at elevations up to 2000 m above sea level, maintaining analog-to-digital conversion linearity despite lower air density. A protective conformal coating permits operation at a maximum relative humidity of 95% without condensation, making the unit suitable for humidifiers, dairy plants, or tropical installations. Cold-room applications are also supported, and the electronics start reliably at ambient temperatures down to -25 °C. This capability keeps load-cell data available during refrigeration cycles and winter plant shutdowns.
