Product Description:
The X20SL8101 is a safety-logic controller slice manufactured by B&R Automation for the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. Mounted in an X20 rack, it supervises safe inputs, sets deterministic outputs, and exchanges certified OpenSafety data with motion drives and standard PLCs. The module occupies one slot, mates with neighboring I/O slices through the backplane, and attaches directly to a POWERLINK segment. This gives machine builders an integrated way to implement emergency stop, guard door, and speed-monitoring functions without adding a stand-alone safety CPU.
The slice draws only 0.2 W from the bus, minimizing load on the shared X20 power rail, while the internal controller logic requires 5.3 W. Embedded Ethernet switch stages expose 2 hub ports, so network expansion needs no external hardware. The module has 1 POWERLINK interface for real-time process and safety telegrams. Compliance with Category II overvoltage requirements allows direct connection to 24 VDC control circuits. An internal I/O supply is included, and the SafeKEY memory stores application code plus CRC signatures. Additional consumption consists of 0.6 W of X2X-link internal power and 1.42 W of X2X supply power, both delivered through the backplane.
The backplane can source up to 10 A of cumulative current, enabling the slice to feed subsequent high-demand modules without a separate feeder. An integrated OpenSafety gateway ensures safe data can coexist with standard traffic on the same medium. The housing carries an IP20 protection rating for use inside control cabinets. Mechanical endurance is confirmed by shock tolerance of 15 g and continuous vibration resistance of 1 g. Because both X2X link supply rails are included, no auxiliary converters or fuses are required to power remote terminal groups.
