Product Description:

B&R Automation's X20SLX806 is a safety-rated I/O slice from the X20 Fieldbus Input Output Modules series. The unit combines safe inputs, safe outputs, and pulse channels in one housing so that distributed protection functions can be placed directly on the machine bus. Mounted beside standard X20 slices, it gathers field signals, exchanges deterministic telegrams with the CPU, and energizes contactors or valves. Within an automation line, it supports emergency stops, guard monitoring, and drive-integrated safety while reducing external wiring. It also allows safety functions to be placed close to the machine section where signals originate.

The input section provides 8 Type A channels for light curtains, interlock switches, or stop buttons. Dual-channel evaluation reaches the controller in under <10 µs, minimizing the delay between fault detection and drive shutdown. The module also includes 6 Type B2 semiconductor outputs rated at 0.2 A each, and short-circuit detection supports category 4 integrity. Four incremental pulse outputs are available, and each channel delivers a logic level of 24 VDC for position or speed signaling. This arrangement lets one slice handle sensor monitoring, actuator switching, and pulse transmission without separate interface hardware.

The slice communicates over the openSAFETY protocol and can coordinate up to 10 safe nodes in a single network segment. Its internal logic also manages 4 Safemotion axes, allowing connected inverters to perform safe torque off or limited-speed functions without extra relays. For cabinet installations, the module permits air temperatures up to 60 °C in horizontal mounting, while vertical mounting is limited to 50 °C. Continuous operation is permitted up to 2000 m above sea level and at 5 to 95% relative humidity under non-condensing conditions. Orientation, elevation, and cabinet airflow should be considered during installation.
