Product Description:
The 8V128M.001-2 servo drive is produced by B & R Automation as part of the 8V1 ACOPOS Servo Drives series. Designed for cabinet installation, this unit conditions incoming DC power and delivers pulse-width-modulated output to high-torque synchronous motors used in packaging lines, pick-and-place gantries, and other motion systems. By combining current regulation, bus management, and fault monitoring in one module, it forms the power stage that executes velocity and position commands issued by a machine controller.
During continuous operation, the drive supplies 64 kW of mechanical power at a sustained phase current of 128 A RMS. For dynamic events such as rapid acceleration, it can deliver a short-term peak of 300 A RMS without exceeding its thermal model. The insulated-gate output bridge commutates at a nominal switching frequency of 5 kHz, enabling fine current resolution while keeping conduction losses moderate. Motor speed control reaches 598 Hz. A starting current of 26 A limits inrush on the DC link, and a built-in 30 A fuse provides branch-circuit protection. The DC bus becomes active once it reaches 455 VDC, and operation is permitted at installation altitudes up to 2,000 m. The housing weighs 33.8 kg, which must be considered when selecting panel supports and mounting hardware.
The DC link contains 6,600 µF of bus capacitance, while the auxiliary 24 V supply has an input reservoir of 32,800 µF to absorb control-logic voltage dips. Regenerative energy can be dissipated through an external resistor with a minimum resistance of 2.5 Ω, preventing excessive current during deceleration. For auxiliary loads, the drive supplies 0.5 A at 24 VDC, which can power an encoder or fan. Motor cables may extend up to 25 m without violating switching rise-time limits. The enclosure has an IP20 protection rating, guarding against finger contact while permitting the airflow required for cooling.
