The 8V1180.001-2 is a servo drive module manufactured by B&R Automation for the 8V1 ACOPOS Servo Drives series. Designed to regulate permanent-magnet and induction servomotors, the unit converts three-phase mains power into a variable output that governs torque, velocity, and position. It mounts inside a control cabinet and communicates with the machine controller over a real-time fieldbus, while separate terminals energize an external brake coil. By integrating the power stage, brake supply, and protective electronics in one housing, the drive streamlines axis wiring and supports rapid setup in packaging, printing, and assembly equipment.
The power section delivers 19 A RMS continuously, allowing the connected motor to run at rated torque without derating. It can supply up to 50 A RMS for short acceleration bursts while limiting inrush current to 13 A at startup. Pulse-width modulation operates at 10 kHz, balancing switching losses and acoustic noise, while the commanded output frequency can reach 598 Hz for high-speed spindles. Energy is buffered by a 940 µF DC-bus capacitor, supplemented by 40,000 µF of input capacitance and 3.1 µF of discharge capacitance that safely bleeds residual charge. Auxiliary terminals supply 0.5 A at 24 V DC for sensors and 1.5 A for a motor holding brake, ensuring that peripheral devices remain powered during motion sequences.
During regenerative events, the braking resistor must have a resistance of at least 15 Ω to prevent transistor overload. The DC link becomes active when the bus reaches 455 V DC, so the precharge process must be completed before that threshold is reached. A built-in fuse rated at 12 A protects the incoming supply from excessive current. The cabinet must provide 17 kVA of apparent power to support the installed load under normal operating conditions. Motor leads can extend up to 25 m without exceeding dV/dt limits, providing flexibility when positioning the control cabinet relative to moving machine axes.
