Product Description:

The EEA-PAM-513-A-14 is a power amplifier card produced by Vickers. It has been designed for proportional hydraulic valve control. Vickers has established a trustworthy reputation among automation customers globally because it understands their specific needs. For the EEA-PAM-513-A-14, the company improved the supply voltage in addition to adding low supply voltage safety protection. The ramping of the power amplifier card cannot be affected by the gain adjustment. Vickers has also added monitoring points to the card’s edges. Also, the EEA-PAM-513-A-14 features dead-band compensation on the front of the panel.

For fast and easy access, Vickers has placed the spool position points, common ground signal, and conditioned command signal together. The EEA-PAM-513-A-14 is a combination of the most recent technologies (amplification, processing and signal automation) in a single modular solution. The modular designs make it possible to easily insert up to 7 power amplifier cards into the mainframe. This offers 2 backup channels and 1 main amplification card channel for redundancy. Every channel comes with a complete library of filter options. You can also use the mainframe to provide house, power, and configure using dual software channel line output cards.

The EEA-PAM-513-A-14 is integrated with many technologies in a single compact Vickers form factor. This makes Vickers power amplifier cards the ideal solution for everyday installations and life safety systems. The EEA-PAM-513-A-14 has been designed for easy incorporation into any life or fire safety system. It can also enter Power-Save Mode, where all the power amplifier cards are turned off except required for an emergency message. For instance, the Power-Save Mode is beneficial in saving on battery or backup power supply drain after the main power is lost.

Symptom / LED Indicator

Likely Cause (What it Means)

Recommended Corrective Action

Green “24 V” LED off

No or low supply (card needs 20 – 34 V DC, 40 W)

Check cabinet power supply, polarity and fuse; restore 24 V then re-test.

Green “15 V” LED off

On-board logic rail missing

If 24 V is present, replace regulator section or card.

Yellow “Output enabled” LED dark although z24 is > +10 V

“Drive enable” link missing / < 6 V

Check the enable source on pin z24; repair wiring or PLC output.

Red “Overload” LED lit

Solenoid current > 1.8 A (short or wrong coil)

Measure coil resistance against catalogue, inspect cable for shorts; overload resets automatically when fault cleared.

Command signal present but no pressure change

Set-minimum or gain turned fully CCW

Read conditioned command at monitor-pin b18; readjust set-minimum and gain to specs.

Valve jerks, ramp pot ineffective

Ramp circuit bypass link b12-b20 closed

Remove link (open circuit) or use remote switch for ramp enable.

Output drifts when ambient warms

PCB temperature drift / poor shielding

Allow 15-min warm-up; re-zero “set-minimum”; separate signal wiring from power cables.

PWM dither absent (unstable spool)

Factory dither jumper removed

Re-install factory jumper or enable dither in test jack (consult ML-9046 guide).

Ramp time wrong after card swap

Pot still at 20 ms factory setting

Turn ramp pot clockwise to desired 0.02 – 2 s; verify with pressure gauge.

Low-supply protection trips below 19 V

Undersized 24 V PSU or long cable run

Upgrade PSU to ≥ 40 W and keep ripple < 4 V p-p; use thicker cable to reduce drop.

Indicator / “Code”

What it Means

Green “24 V” LED off

No or low 24 V DC supply reaching the card

Green “15 V” LED off

On-board logic rail missing → internal regulator fault or card defect

Yellow “Output-enabled” LED dark (z24 > +10 V expected)

Drive-enable line inactive (< 6 V) – wiring / PLC output open

Red “Overload” LED lit

Solenoid current > 1.8 A (shorted coil or wrong valve type)

Low-supply protection trips below ≈ 19 V

Undersized or unstable 24 V PSU; card shuts itself down to protect electronics

No pressure/flow change with command present

“Set-minimum” or “Gain” pots turned fully CCW (zero output)

Ramp pot has no effect / valve jerks

Ramp-bypass link (b12–b20) left closed – ramp generator disabled

PWM dither absent – spool sticks

Factory dither jumper removed or disabled, causing static friction

Output drifts with temperature rise

PCB-temperature drift; card needs 15-min warm-up & re-zero; improve shielding

Set ramp time incorrect after card swap

Replacement card still at 20 ms factory default; adjust ramp pot to 0.02–2 s range
