VLT PowerCards

VLT PowerCards series do necessary work inside variable frequency drive systems, particularly in applications where harmonic distortion is paramount.

The power handling spans from 250kW all the way up to 1.4MW, with voltage compatibility across the 380-690V range that covers most industrial installations. The real strength here lies in the 12-pulse configuration approach. Instead of adding capacitors or inductors that can create resonance nightmares, these modules team up with 30°-phase shifting transformers to tackle harmonics head-on. When grid conditions cooperate, they completely eliminate the 5th, 7th, 17th, and 19th harmonics. Total harmonic distortion drops to about 12% at full load. The modular design philosophy keeps things familiar - these modules integrate with the same drive options and accessories that work with standard 6-pulse systems. Back-channel cooling handles the thermal management side of things, which helps these components survive in tough industrial environments. Operating temperature range runs from -10°C to +45°C, assuming installation altitude stays below 3,280 feet. Humidity tolerance sits between 5% and 85% RH under normal conditions. These power cards typically show up as replacement parts in maintenance programs, helping keep critical processes running when original components fail. The modular approach makes swapping them out fairly straightforward during either planned maintenance windows or emergency repairs. Environmental compliance includes RoHS directive requirements, plus the usual safety standards like EN50178, EN60146, and electromagnetic compatibility per EN55011 specifications.
