Product Description:

The Beckhoff CX8093 is one of the members of the CX Embedded PC Systems series, which is powered by a 32-bit ARM9 CPU while having a clock speed of 400 MHz for effective industrial automation operations. The device also has 64 MB DDR2 RAM and comes with a Theft Durable microSD card of 256 MB that is extendable up to microSD 8 GB. It also runs on the Windows CE operating system and has two RJ45 Ethernet ports (10/100 Mbit/s) that are switchable with fieldbus interfaces.

The CX8093 works with a power input of 24 V DC and uses about 2.4 W of power with no fieldbus or I/O modules attached to it. It is designed for stable usage and has an operational temperature range of 0 degrees C to 55 degrees C, while the storage temperature range ranges from -25 degrees C to 85 degrees C. The enclosure protection classification is IP20, which means that the device should be used in clean and controlled surroundings. Another notable feature of the CX8093 is that it has a small form factor of 64 mm x 100 mm x 73 mm (W x H x D); therefore, it does not occupy a large space. Its small size ensures that it can be mounted on control cabinets or put on DIN rails.

Another feature of the CX8093 PC is that it comes with 64 MB of DDR2 RAM, which is higher than the standard 32 MB of DDR RAM. These features promote efficient and smooth working to process data and run programs, without any interruption or delays. It helps in managing control tasks of the device, so it can provide adequate real-time memory and can easily interface with other automation devices.

Fault / Symptom What it usually means Corrective action
Power LED remains off after energising 24 V DC supply absent or below –15 % tolerance Measure supply at the CX8093 terminals; restore 19.2–28.8 V DC; check panel fuse/breaker wiring.
TC (TwinCAT) LED flashing red Runtime stopped—PLC program not executing Connect with TwinCAT, read the log, clear exception, and switch the PLC to Run; re-download or restore program snapshot if corrupt.
WD (Watchdog) LED flashing red Watch-dog timeout (PROFINET master lost or PLC task over-cycle) Inspect task‐load in TwinCAT System Manager, optimise cycle times, verify network cabling to the PROFINET controller, and reboot the CX.
Bus-status LEDs alternate red/green E-bus / K-bus terminal fault or incorrect end-cap Power down, reseat terminals, replace the missing KL90xx end-terminal, power up and confirm bus scan is error-free.
Both PROFINET port link LEDs dark Network link down or auto-negotiation failed Test patch leads with a cable-tester, inspect switch-port status, verify masters are in the same VLAN/subnet, then hot-swap leads and retest.
ERR LED solid red immediately after boot Firmware checksum or boot image invalid Create a fresh boot image on a micro-SD card from the Beckhoff ISO, insert, hold Reset while powering, and re-flash the device.
Device shows “Unknown-Device” in TwinCAT target browser Mismatch between firmware and GSDML/device description Update TwinCAT device descriptions (or GSDML on Siemens TIA) and, if required, update CX8093 firmware to the latest build.
System clock resets to 2006 at power-up RTC coin-cell battery discharged Open the front flap, replace the CR2032 battery, then set date/time in TwinCAT; dispose of old battery per IEC 60254 guidelines.
CX fails to boot – SD-card not detected micro-SD card corrupted or formatted incorrectly Power off, remove card, back-up data, re-format FAT32, reload firmware image or insert Beckhoff-supplied card, then retest boot.
Spontaneous warm reboot / erratic behaviour above 55 °C Ambient temperature outside spec Improve cabinet airflow, add DIN-rail fan units, or relocate controller so ambient stays ≤ 55 °C continuous.
