The CX9020-0110 is an embedded PC module produced by Beckhoff as part of the CX Embedded PC Systems series. The unit is intended for DIN-rail mounting next to EtherCAT or Bus Terminal slices. It operates as the central controller for industrial automation lines, where it runs TwinCAT PLC code, handles visualization tasks, and relays field data to higher-level networks. This arrangement places control processing close to the connected input and output terminals while supporting an organized cabinet layout.
The computing core is an i.MX535 Cortex-A8 at 1 GHz, a single-core processor that combines integer and floating-point engines for deterministic control cycles. To hold active variables and the real-time operating system, the module carries 1 GB of DDR3 RAM. Program and recipe retention is provided by the included 512 MB microSD card, which can be replaced without opening the housing. Two industrial Ethernet ports use RJ45 10/100 Mbit/s interfaces to support line or switch topologies. The four front-mounted USB 2.0 sockets connect service laptops, storage devices, or HMI panels. The electronics receive control power from the backplane at 24 V DC, and internal regulation keeps the logic rails stable when cabinet supply voltage fluctuates.
The CPU and peripherals together consume only 5 W, or 9 W when the optional UPS capacitor is fitted, so natural convection is sufficient inside the IP20 enclosure. The housing measures 84 × 100 × 91 mm, allowing it to fit in shallow cabinets while occupying the width of a single power supply. For nonvolatile process data such as shift counters, the module integrates 128 kB of NOVRAM that preserves stored values without batteries. The built-in input and output bus can supply up to 2 A to connected terminals. Its through-wired power contacts carry up to 10 A, allowing extensive terminal strings to receive field power without separate distribution rails. The low heat output reduces the need for forced airflow around the controller and its adjacent terminal modules.
