Product Description:
The CX8030 is an embedded PC module manufactured by Beckhoff for the CX Embedded PC Systems series. Mounted on a DIN rail, it combines a processor, fieldbus master, and terminal-bus coupler in one housing so it can function as the main PLC in compact machines, building automation panels, or energy monitoring stations. By unifying these roles, the unit delivers deterministic control while fitting into tight electrical cabinets that cannot accommodate a separate industrial computer.
Despite a housing that measures 64 × 100 × 73 mm, the controller integrates a 32-bit ARM-based CPU that executes cyclic tasks and communication stacks without active cooling, a capability enabled by its fanless thermal design. The front panel provides a PROFIBUS DP master port for deterministic communication with drives or distributed I/O, while the side connectors accept both K-bus and E-bus terminal rows for local expansion. Program code, the real-time kernel, and boot files reside in 512 MB of SLC flash memory. Removable application data can be stored on a microSD card for convenient file transfer and storage. A single USB Type B service jack provides a direct connection for system configuration. The electronics operate from a nominal 24 VDC input that also supplies the internal terminal-bus logic.
For extensions with higher power demands, the through-wired contacts on the terminal bus can deliver up to 10 A, separating actuator loads from the low-current control path. Application development follows the IEC 61131-3 language set, allowing ladder logic, structured text, or function block diagrams to be deployed directly from TwinCAT to the module. During brief supply interruptions, a 1-second capacitive UPS preserves memory consistency long enough for the operating system to shut down properly. This backup capability helps protect active process data when input power drops unexpectedly. The assembly weighs only 180 g, which reduces the mechanical load on the DIN rail. Its compact form also leaves more cabinet space available for terminal modules, power supplies, and related control equipment.
