Product Description
Beckoff is among the most important producers of industrial components for automation. It leads the market with an extended set of IPC, motion controllers and I/Os. The EK1100 is a coupler that may be used to connect a modular I/O island to an EtherCAT network. The coupler is the first modular component of Beckhoff modular remote I/O systems.
On its left side, the EK1100 provides two RJ-45 ports, that are meant to connect the I/O system to an EtherCAT network. The upper Ethernet interface is used to connect the coupler to the network and the lower socket may be used for other EtherCAT devices in the same network. On the right side, the operator should connect any number of EtherCAT Terminals. The goal of the coupler is to convert into E-bus signal representation the telegrams from the Ethernet 100BASE-TX and allow communications between the many EtherCAT Terminals and other devices on the network.
The EK1100 coupler supports the EtherCAT Device Protocol and therefore, should be connected to an EtherCAT master (only the MAC Broadcast telegrams coming from the EtherCAT master will be processed by the device). The use of a switch or a router is not allowed for this device. The coupler also manages the power supply for the communication of the connected terminal. The EK1100 can deliver a maximum overall current of 2000 mA, at a voltage of 5 V DC. If more current is needed for the connected terminals, additional Power Feed terminals, such as the EL9410, should be integrated in the system. Each additional EL9410 will grant 2000 additional mA of available current supply. The device features some diagnostic LEDs on the front side to provide the user some feedback about the device’s power supply, communication status and fieldbus diagnosis.
