The Beckhoff EK1300 is part of the EK EtherCAT Couplers series and operates with a 24 VDC supply voltage and IP20 protection class. Product Description:
The EK1300 EtherCAT coupler is produced by Beckhoff within the EK EtherCAT Couplers series. The device bridges a higher-level EtherCAT segment to a string of Beckhoff I/O terminals through its internal E-bus, allowing sensors and actuators to be addressed with deterministic timing. Acting as a compact fieldbus interface, it occupies the first slot of a terminal strand and forwards process data and power to connected terminals. This arrangement supports decentralized control without requiring additional gateway hardware. The coupler also manages communication between the incoming network connection and the terminal-level E-bus.
Up to 2000 mA of current is available on the E-bus, powering the electronics of downstream terminals without external feeders. Field wiring reaches the network through two M8 sockets that are shielded and P-coded to maintain signal integrity in electrically noisy control panels. Data moves over 100 Mbit/s Fast Ethernet links, and telegram framing follows the EtherCAT Device Protocol, allowing short communication cycles under suitable network conditions. Internal power conductors carry up to 10 A at a rated voltage of 24 V, allowing compatible loads to share the same distribution rail. The coupler requires a control supply and logic voltage for operation. It does not contain an integrated PLC and does not support Hot Connect switching sequences.
The housing supports DIN-rail mounting inside control panels and operates from a 24 V DC logic supply. A total of three power contacts allows higher-current loads to branch from the coupler without separate distribution terminal blocks. The enclosure has an IP20 protection rating, which guards against contact with hazardous internal parts by fingers and against solid objects larger than 12.5 mm. The enclosure does not provide protection against water, so the coupler requires a suitable cabinet or other protective housing in exposed locations. Its compact format allows it to serve as the first component in a Beckhoff terminal assembly while distributing communication signals and power to downstream I/O terminals. The fixed-node design is suitable for panel installations in which the terminal arrangement remains connected during normal operation.
