No automated menus, no AI directories. Kollmorgen motion control systems combine servo motors, digital drives, feedback devices, and communication interfaces to manage position, speed, and torque in automated machinery. The AKM, AKD, S200, and S600 series support applications ranging from compact single-axis equipment to networked industrial motion systems. AKM servomotors use permanent-magnet rotor technology and electronic commutation for dynamic motion control. The associated drive families provide configurable control modes, feedback support, current capacities, and communication options for different machine architectures.

AKD Drive Series

AKD digital servo drives are available with different software versions, current ratings, supply-voltage classes, extension options, and communication interfaces. Connectivity configurations include analog control, EtherCAT, CANopen, combined EtherCAT and CANopen, and PROFINET RT. The drive can be configured for torque, velocity, or position control. Command sources can include an analog input, a fieldbus, electronic gearing, service commands, or digital inputs. Supported motor-feedback technologies include incremental encoders, sine-cosine encoders, EnDat 2.1 and 2.2, BiSS, Hiperface, resolver, and Kollmorgen SFD. Motor parameters, feedback selection, digital and analog I/O, homing, motion tasks, and control-loop settings are configured through WorkBench.

AKD drives use separate continuous and peak current limits to control short-duration acceleration demands. Foldback functions reduce the available current when drive or motor thermal limits are approached. During deceleration, regenerated motor energy returns to the DC bus and may require an appropriately sized external regeneration resistor. Standard models also support direct DC input when the applied voltage remains within the drive’s bus-voltage and regeneration limits.

AKM Motor Series

AKM synchronous servomotors use a permanent-magnet rotor and a three-phase stator winding controlled through electronic commutation. The rotor incorporates neodymium-iron-boron magnetic material to support high dynamic response without brushes or a mechanical commutator. The motors are designed for closed-loop positioning, speed, and torque applications in equipment such as machine tools, industrial robots, and transfer systems.

An electrically isolated PTC thermistor embedded in the stator winding monitors motor temperature. Resolver feedback is the standard configuration, while available alternatives include SFD, EnDat single-turn and multi-turn encoders, BiSS encoders, and ComCoder feedback. Feedback systems can alter the motor’s overall length and cannot be retrofitted after manufacture. Standard AKM motors have an IP65 enclosure, while the standard shaft bushing is rated IP54. A radial shaft-sealing ring can raise shaft-side protection to IP67. The motors use Class F insulation and are rated for operation from 5°C to 40°C at elevations up to 1,000 meters without derating.

S200 Drive Series

S200 servo drives are compact, single-axis controllers with continuous and peak current ratings matched to different motor sizes. They use a 10 kHz PWM switching frequency and support Kollmorgen AKM servomotors. The digital current loop has a bandwidth of 3,000 Hz, while the velocity loop supports a maximum bandwidth of 800 Hz when operating with SFD feedback. Available command functions include analog torque, analog velocity, master-slave operation, step-and-direction commands, and electronic gearing. Point-to-point communication can be handled through RS-232, while supported feedback arrangements include Hall sensors and two-cable SFD feedback.

Protective functions include inrush-current limiting, current foldback, I²t current limiting, output short-circuit protection, feedback monitoring, and motor or drive overtemperature detection. The drives also monitor DC-bus undervoltage and overvoltage conditions. Their specified operating range is 0°C to 50°C, with derating required above 40°C, and allowable non-condensing relative humidity ranges from 10 to 90 percent.

S600 Drive Series

The S600 family consists of digital servo amplifiers with rated output currents from 1.5 to 20 Arms. The drives operate from grounded three-phase supplies ranging from 230 VAC -10 percent to 480 VAC +10 percent at 50 Hz, or 208 VAC -10 percent to 480 VAC +10 percent at 60 Hz. The power stage uses an IGBT module with isolated current measurement, an integrated input filter, an inrush circuit, and an internal brake resistor. Multiple drives can also have their DC buses connected in parallel when the installation follows the manufacturer requirements.

Control functions include a digital current controller with a 62.5-microsecond cycle, a configurable digital speed controller, and an integral position controller with a 250-microsecond cycle. The amplifier can evaluate resolver and high-resolution sine-cosine encoder signals, and it provides incremental or SSI encoder simulation. Standard interfaces include two analog command inputs, programmable digital I/O, two analog monitor outputs, RS-232, CANopen, and an integrated pulse-direction input.

FAQs

What products are included in Kollmorgen motion control systems?

Kollmorgen motion control systems include synchronous servomotors, digital servo drives, feedback devices, and communication hardware. The featured families include AKM servomotors, AKD servo drives, S200 single-axis drives, and S600 digital servo amplifiers.

How do AKM servomotors generate controlled motion?

AKM motors use a permanent-magnet rotor and a three-phase stator winding. A compatible servo drive electronically commutates the motor and uses position feedback to regulate torque, speed, or position without brushes or a mechanical commutator.

Which feedback devices can AKD drives support?

Depending on the configuration, AKD drives support resolver, SFD, incremental encoder, sine-cosine encoder, EnDat 2.1 or 2.2, BiSS, and Hiperface feedback. The installed motor feedback must be compatible with the drive configuration and properly selected during setup.

What forms of payment does Wake Industrial accept?
